Dallas Museum of Art

Last weekend, we went to the Dallas Museum of Art. The museum was beautiful and we all enjoyed it - even the girls were not bored.

This was Lizzy's favorite picture. Lizzy was completely shocked by all the nudity at the museum. She loudly whispered to me "Why did they paint all their privates?!?" I told her that artists feel the human body is beautiful, and they like to paint all of it. She replied "Well it's not. It's gross. They should put clothes on". This from our girl who hardly wore clothes the first five years of her life.

While there, I did my summer class assignment - I had to choose two of my favorite pieces and critique them. I loved these beautiful carvings we found in the Indian room.

I loved the view outside - the juxtaposition of the old and new.

As we walked up the stairs, the three of them plunked down and rested like that and I thought it was a cute pose.

Katie loved the temoporary JFK exhibit. He is her favorite president.

This mural was kind of weird, but loved the colors!

Afterward, we went to the new Klyde Warren park in Dallas. It is a really cool park, built recently over the top of the highway.

They also have some pretty cool play structures.

We had planned to spend the evening there and enjoy a picnic from one of the food trucks, but we were chased away by a sudden thunderstorm. Hopefully we can go again some evening. It's only about a 20 minute drive from our house with no traffic, so we should really go to Dallas more often.

Summer Knitting Projects

Since I'm only taking one class this summer, I have some spare time in the evenings to knit again! (Forgive the excessive pictures - I take extra so I can give them away and still remember the project). First I made a sweet little bunny.

My favorite part - her cute little panties and cotton tail!

Then I learned how to knit in the round with this cute little turtle. I've wanted to learn this for a while and this pattern was perfect because I love turtles!

Tonight I finished Ellie the Elephant. This pattern had the ears and feet lined with fabric and even though I hated sewing it on, I love how it turned out. The fabric has a vintage feel so she looks old.

Now I'm starting a baby blanket for a friend and I'm going to try cable knitting. Mercy showed me while she was here, so hopefully I can get it! I hope I finish it before the baby has outgrown it!

VBS

Katie and Lizzy had a great week at VBS at a local church. The theme was Colossal Coaster World and their verse was 2 Timothy 1:7 -- For God hath not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love.
They have had a great summer so far with lots of fun with friends. Next up, they are headed to Vacation Safety school, a police dept program similar to VBS but for safety. After that, we have our church's vbs, then Katie's birthday and off to Kansas for a week before back to school fun!

Katie's Baptism

On July 7, Katie was baptized. It was a really special day for all of us!

An after picture with our sweet pastor.

We went to dinner after - Katie's choice was hibachi.

One set of Grandparents gave her a cross necklace and the other gave her a Bible with her name on it.

A few shots with family before they went back home.

One of the guys in the sound booth was nice enough to make us a video of her baptism.
