Katie is in the highest band this year, and she just heard that she got into the highest band for eighth grade! We finally found her a good oboe teacher too (it is difficult to find a good oboe teacher with openings)! Unfortunately, it isn't through the school anymore because that lady was not good with kids, so it is more expensive and we have to take her in the evening, but we are hoping to see some great progress! I'm sure the first thing the teacher will have to do is correct some bad habits she has developed from not having a teacher or having a poor teacher for two years.
Of course, you can't see Katie behind the music stands and directly in front of the conductor, but she was there! I think it is incredible how far they bring the kids in middle school. Especially since many kids at our school can't afford private lessons. We are blessed with amazing band teachers who do everything they can to make sure our kids can compete with some of the more affluent schools when they get to upper high school.
