Schoolwork

We have 10 more school days left this year. Praying I make it thru. Today Katie had to write about about her favorite Bible story. She chose Jesus feeding the 5000. So I told her if she did it really neatly, I'd post it for family to see. This is her second draft. She always forgets capitals and periods so we had to rewrite it.
And of course, if I post one of Katie's I must post one of Lizzy's too. She has really progressed the last few months. She can sound out most short vowel, one syllable words. She sounded all these out, figured out which letter was missing, and wrote them in all by herself this morning. Except I wrote the "e". E's are really hard to write.

The Disciples went across the sea of Galilee to a meeting with Jesus. When they got there, thousands of people came out of cities, towns, and everywhere to the meeting. One little boy came and had lunch. Everyone was supposed to bring food, but only one little boy brought food. He brought two fish, and five loaves of bread. Jesus divided the food and everyone knew it was a miracle. People thought it would be too less food, but Jesus said "there's twelve baskets of food left". The end.

Girl Scouts Swim

We had our girl scout friends and their siblings over to swim today. We had lots of fun! We are looking forward to spending more time with them at playdates over the summer. Click on the slideshow to download the photos if your kids are in them.

Fuzzy

For the past 6 weeks or more, we have had a temporary new pet. His name is Fuzzy, and he has been living in a jar on my countertop. He even went to Kansas with us and rode in the motorhome. Fascinating life for a worm. For the first 3 weeks, he crawled around eating everything in sight and nearly doubled in size. He pooped alot. I never knew caterpillars poopped. You'd have thought there was a mouse in there. (Had I known caterpillars pooped so much and I would have to clean his cage regularly, I wouldn't have suggested that the girls could watch him transform.) Finally, he went into his cocoon. As mold slowly grew around him in the jar, and I was tempted to toss him on a daily basis, he was slowly changing inside his cocoon. This morning we found that he had hatched and we set him free near where we found him. Hopefully, he won't be eaten like our butterfly from the mall was. By the way, he is a Giant Leopard Moth.

My Four-Eyed Girls

Last week we had our eye check-ups. I need glasses for driving at night, and Theo and the girls all need glasses for reading. They will probably out grow it soon. Last year the Dr. said Katie needed to wear them all the time because she has astigmatism too, but this Dr. said she just needs them when reading. Her astygmatism isn't bad enough to require them. Which was great because she never wore hers last year anyways.

Keith Coast

This was our last Wednesday night at church until Fall and they brought in Keith Coast as entertainment. He was so funny. Kids and adults alike were in stitches.

The wand started out 2 inches long. We kept trading up for bigger wands when the trick wasn't working. Finally this one did the trick. Literally.

I never thought I'd see a man crawl into a balloon.

Golden Mommies!

Today was our last Mops meeting of the year. We celebrated with an awards ceremony and a luncheon. It was so much fun. The girls who planned it really went all out!

Here I am winning my "Golden Mommy". I won the "Caroline Ingalls award -  A true pioneer gal who can rise early, plow a field, cook and feed the family, bathe the kids and still make time to help others" - I truly deserved this award since I rose early and fed my family today. Poptarts.

Here is a picture of a golden mommy. It isn't mine. I was too tired from plowing fields to go downstairs and snap a picture. This is from the gal who won the best chef award. Barbie has never looked so glitzy.
They gave me a basket full of goodies, including a nice framed and autographed picture of the group, the coolest basket ever, a book, movie, notepads and Outback giftcards. Thanks!

This is my table group. They are a great bunch of ladies, even if we didn't win for best table group. Last place is better than nothing!

We wore formals for the event and everyone looked so pretty! It was fun being all dressy for a change.I wish I had done up my hair, but after all that cooking this morning, I ran out of time.

Bridging to Brownies

Today we had our awards ceremony at Girl Scouts. Katie bridged from Daisys (kindergarten and first grade) up to Brownies (2nd and 3rd).

Here are the Brownies welcoming her and the changing of the uniform.

I am so proud of my big girl! She is doing such a great job in Girl Scouts!

Butterflies

Today we went with one of Katie's friends to see the butterfly exhibit that the Kiwanis club put on at the mall. Lizzy really enjoyed it but it just kind of freaked Katie and I out. Sorry, but they are bugs. Pretty bugs, but bugs none the less. And they convinced me that we really needed one to take home, so now we have two cocoons in jars on my kitchen counter. Fuzzy, the caterpillar, who is half in his cocoon now and the Orangey, the butterfly who should hatch any day now.

Swimming

We got to take our first dip in the pool the other day! Lizzy had forgotten how to swim, but I think she will remember fast. Katie remembered and showed us how she could swim across. If you are in the area, come join us sometime!

End of year Daisy Party

Yesterday we had our end of year Daisy Party at PaintnParty. The girls painted so beautifully, and were very careful in a store full of breakable things. They were all patient and had lots of fun. I am so thankful for our Daisy Friends!

We had some sisters too. Here's a little one with her polka-dot deer.
And a big sister too.

Finally done with April!

Here are the last few random photos so I can finally finish April. Now if I only had ordered pictures as I went along. I don't think I have ordered any pictures since September. That's going to be fun. Oh, and the videos. I haven't gotten my videos done for the entire year of 2009 yet and here we are almost half-way thru 2010. It's never going to end. Whatever happened to the good old days when we dropped the film off at the store, picked it up 6 weeks later when we remembered it, dropped the pictures in a shoebox and forgot about them? At least I forgot to take any pictures of the fun we had today, thank God.

Hutchinson Cosmosphere

The next morning we headed out early to see the Hutchinson Kansas Cosmosphere. It was a really neat place. They have a planetarium, an Imax, and a really cool science show. We saw him light up a giant cotton ball full of liquid oxygen and it went boom! Then we got to feel it when he poured it out on the floor. Pretty cool stuff. Wet, but not wet.

We had a great trip to Kansas and really enjoyed our time there.
